Stretching and Jewelry Care
Jewelry Care
Organic jewelry is hand made from natural materials.  Here are a few things you can do to help keep your jewelry staying beautiful and comfortable:

1)    Oil your wood and horn jewelry often to keep them shiny and protect them from the humidity fluxuations in the environment.  Using the right oils will also be beneficial for your lobes as well.  Here are a few suggestions:

a.    Jojoba oil
b.    Emu oil (non-vegan)
c.    Grape seed oil
d.    Olive oil

2)    When you are not wearing your jewelry it’s best to store them in a cool, dark, and dry box.  It is not advised to store your jewelry on a sunny window sill where they will be exposed to extreme temperatures on hot days.

3)    It’s best for your jewelry not to shower with it on a daily basis, particularly if you live in a very dry environment.  The dramatic changes in humidity can encourage cracking, or with wood jewelry, can raise the grain.  If your jewelry needs to be cleaned, wash with warm water and a natural soap if needed, and dry with a cloth.  And lastly, oil your jewelry after washing it to maintain its protective finish.

Stretching Care
We all love our ears and they deserve our best care.   To keep your ears happy and healthy here are some general guidelines for taking care of your stretching.

1)    Organic jewelry is for healed piercings only!  When you get a piercing stretched up to the next size, it is suggested by the APP (Association of Professional Piercers) to use surgical stainless steal with a 316L or 316LVM rating with internal threads.

2)    It is also recommended that you wait until your piercing is fully healed before you use Organic Jewelry or proceed to stretch again.  In most cases, six to eight weeks is the minimum needed for a stretching to fully heal.  Even though it may seem healed, the collagen layer of the skin needs this time to heal all its cell walls.  Stretching to soon will increase the likelihood of creating scar tissue, and can complicate further stretching.

3)     Keep your stretched lobes clean, take your organic jewelry out before showering, and clean and dry your ears before replacing the jewelry.

4)    Oiling your lobes is highly suggested.  After you shower and before you sleep is the most opportune time to lube up them lobes.  Taking your jewelry out at night allows greater blood circulation and gives the usually covered skin time to breath. If you have not worn your jewelry in a while, oiling your lobes will allow the jewelry to slip into place more easefully.
